Latin Leaders is a
Toastmasters International club which meets every Tuesday night from 6:30 to 7:35.
Our club is bilingual. The first Tuesday of every month we hold the
meeting in Spanish and encourage our members to do their presentations/table topics in Spanish, although it
is optional and you may speak in either English or Spanish at any time. We strive to have two speakers every
week and a table topics session to give an opportunity for everyone to practice speaking. Additionally, all
members participate in meeting roles in an organized environment. Our focus is to improve leadership skills
as well as speaking skills in a way that is enjoyable.
The feedback from most people who visit us (and most of them join us) is that our club is very supportive of
all members, encouraging participation and providing positive feedback for the development of our members -
but you should experience that for yourself. You are welcome to join us as a guest any time and let us know
what you think. For more information email us at info@latinleaders.org,
or just walk in on Tuesdays and we'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Cristina is back! Now I know there is hope. Also back to visit were Jorge and Susie. I expect to see our visitors become new members next week. Yes, this meeting was about renewed hope, as we begin this year on the inauguration day of our new U.S. President, Barack Obama. We had a very full meeting with three speeches. Marian started with a story she wrote for the storytelling project of the Advanced Communicator manual. I always love hearing her stories. Except for the cell phone going off, it was a very somber period as we listened to the story about a little girl in 1951 dealing with moving to a new home. I gave another speech in my series about Getting Things Done, one of my favorite personal productivity books. Delfino finished with his 9th speech on perseverance.

We now have a clear leader in the Best Table Topics category, as Marian did it again. I don’t know how she does it. Next week we will be conducting our “Moments of Truth” meeting so everyone should be there to participate and help define our goals for this year.
I have made a few new enhancements to the web site. Now added is the “Club Goals” menu button which will display our Distinguished Club Program progress. I have also added more member activity statistics so you can get a much better idea how you are doing in the club. You can view this by clicking on the “View Activity” link on your member profile page. This is not quite finished yet, I will be spending some more time to make it a little prettier. The best thing that I’ve added now is the ability to auto-fill the agenda for future meetings. This will save the VP Education a lot of time in preparing the agenda so that more time can be spent on more important tasks.
Beatriz and Marian are back again after a short break. We sure missed you guys. You made the meeting fun and friendly. Delfino who was scheduled to speak could not make it tonight. I was the only speaker. I gave a speech entitled “Getting Things Done” which was based on one of my favorite books of the same name, a book by David Allen. If you have not read this book I highly recommend it. This is a problem I see with so many people around me who seem to complain that they have too much to do and not enough time to get everything done. If we can only learn to manage our time better, we’d be able to get everything done that needs to be done and more time spending on the things we enjoy doing.
Jorge came back for his second visit and participated in the Table Topics. I think he will gain a lot in Toastmasters and I hope he’ll be joining us soon. Salavador won best evaluator tonight and Marian won best table topics. As soon as Marian started speaking I knew she would win.
Next week our meeting falls on the inauguration day for President Obama. Don’t forget to set your DVR and visit us at Latin Leaders. Our theme next week will be “Hope”.
Welcome back everyone and Happy New Year! How are your New Year’s resolutions going? I hope that you are making realistic commitments that you are sure to follow through. Well, we here at Latin Leaders are here to help in any way we can. Don’t let your speaking and leadership skills get too relaxed. Keep yourself sharp by practicing every week.
Today’s meeting was light and we had a couple of great guests. We decided to do table topics and everyone had a chance to speak. We had evaluations as well by having each speaker evaluate the subsequent speaker. It turned out very well, everyone had a chance to speak and be evaluated. Jorge and Suzie did a great job all around. Congratulations to each.
We’ll be continuing our regular meetings and I will be sure to prepare the schedule for the next several weeks. See you next week!
Our mission is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning
environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop
communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster
self-confidence and personal growth.
