Latin Leaders is a
Toastmasters International club which meets every Tuesday night from 6:30 to 7:35.
Our club is bilingual. The first Tuesday of every month we hold the
meeting in Spanish and encourage our members to do their presentations/table topics in Spanish, although it
is optional and you may speak in either English or Spanish at any time. We strive to have two speakers every
week and a table topics session to give an opportunity for everyone to practice speaking. Additionally, all
members participate in meeting roles in an organized environment. Our focus is to improve leadership skills
as well as speaking skills in a way that is enjoyable.
The feedback from most people who visit us (and most of them join us) is that our club is very supportive of
all members, encouraging participation and providing positive feedback for the development of our members -
but you should experience that for yourself. You are welcome to join us as a guest any time and let us know
what you think. For more information email us at info@latinleaders.org,
or just walk in on Tuesdays and we'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.

The Latin Leaders Fall 2008 Speech Contest went very well, We had a large attendance and a couple of guests as well. The contestants (from left to right) were Alberto Gutierrez, Cesar Vargas, Beatriz Camacho, Ramon Diaz, and Salvador Zamarripa (not pictured). Brenda was the test speaker with a speech entitled, “The Legend of the Chupacabras”. This was very difficult to judge because they were all so good.
And the winners:
1st Place Humorous Speech: Alberto Gutierrez
Runner up Humorous Speech: Cesar Vargas
1st Place Evaluation: Beatriz Camacho
Runner up Evaluation: Salvador Zamarripa

As you know this is contest season, and we are getting ready for our contest. Our club contest will be held next Tuesday September 16, 2008 at 6:15 PM at our regular meeting place. We have a few eager contestants. Cesar and Alberto will be our humorous speech contestants, Ramon and Salvador will be our evaluation contestants, and Beatriz will also compete but is undecided which contest to participate in. Marty is now our contest chairperson and will be putting together the contest for us. Everyone please come in and support out club.
The theme of yesterday’s meeting was “Humor”. Alberto had just given a speech on humor and has now chosen it as his theme for the meeting. This was his first time as the Toastmaster of the meeting. Delfino gave a speech entitled “El Cigaro”. The speech was entirely in Spanish. Delfino is progressing very steadily since joining in March and he is now half way through to completing his first CC award. I notice a huge difference in his body language, vocal projection, and his confidence. He has made significant improvements since his first speech back in March.
Salvador provided the table topics, entirely in Spanish. That was fun, and challenging. We had three guests and our return visitor, Jorge, joined the club at the end of the meeting. Welcome Jorge! I’m looking forward to seeing your progression during the next year.
After the meeting I gave a short presentation on the web site. Club dues can now be paid online through Paypal and since these are due this month, I hope this will be a convenient way for everyone to get their dues in on time.
At our next meeting, we’ll have Brenda and Delfino giving speeches. Delfino has decided to compete in the contest on Sep 16 so this will be his practice speech. Cesar now has some competition. This should be a great contest.
