Latin Leaders is a
Toastmasters International club which meets every Tuesday night from 6:30 to 7:35.
Our club is bilingual. The first Tuesday of every month we hold the
meeting in Spanish and encourage our members to do their presentations/table topics in Spanish, although it
is optional and you may speak in either English or Spanish at any time. We strive to have two speakers every
week and a table topics session to give an opportunity for everyone to practice speaking. Additionally, all
members participate in meeting roles in an organized environment. Our focus is to improve leadership skills
as well as speaking skills in a way that is enjoyable.
The feedback from most people who visit us (and most of them join us) is that our club is very supportive of
all members, encouraging participation and providing positive feedback for the development of our members -
but you should experience that for yourself. You are welcome to join us as a guest any time and let us know
what you think. For more information email us at info@latinleaders.org,
or just walk in on Tuesdays and we'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
I was not able to attend the meeting yesterday but I heard it went very well. Funny man Alberto gave a comedic speech for his 8th project, getting comfortable with visual aids. I’m pretty sure I know how that went because I helped him out on that speech. Alberto is really improving well and his English skills are just getting better and better. Way to go Alberto, I hear you won best speaker.
Best evaluator was Ramon Diaz and best table topics went to Nahetzin Velasco. We also had a couple of new guests.
Next week is our All-Spanish meeting and executive council meeting, so be prepared. Michelle will be back with another interesting speech in Spanish. I can’t wait to hear it.
This meeting we had two advanced speeches going on. The first was Todd doing project #4 from the Specialty speeches manual titled “Reasons to be Up in Down Times”. His speech was 9 to 11 minutes. This was an interesting speech, using the projector showing various graphs of gas prices, market prices, etc. over time. My speech was speech #4 of the Persuasive Speaking manual entitled “Writing at Toastmasters”. My speech was 7 to 9 minutes long. I talked about the benefits of incorporating writing skills into the Toastmasters program and too questions from the audience for three minutes.
The area speech contest is coming up so we need to start planning our club contest. The area contest will be on September 20 so we will need to have our club contest on either Sep 2, 9, or 16. Any volunteers for contestants?
