Latin Leaders is a
Toastmasters International club which meets every Tuesday night from 6:30 to 7:35.
Our club is bilingual. The first Tuesday of every month we hold the
meeting in Spanish and encourage our members to do their presentations/table topics in Spanish, although it
is optional and you may speak in either English or Spanish at any time. We strive to have two speakers every
week and a table topics session to give an opportunity for everyone to practice speaking. Additionally, all
members participate in meeting roles in an organized environment. Our focus is to improve leadership skills
as well as speaking skills in a way that is enjoyable.
The feedback from most people who visit us (and most of them join us) is that our club is very supportive of
all members, encouraging participation and providing positive feedback for the development of our members -
but you should experience that for yourself. You are welcome to join us as a guest any time and let us know
what you think. For more information email us at info@latinleaders.org,
or just walk in on Tuesdays and we'll be happy to answer any questions you may have.
Welcome to our newest Latin Leader, Nahetzin. A la bim, a la bam, a la bim bum bam!!! Nahetzin is our second dance instructor to join LL. Maybe this is a message to our club. Dancing might be part of our mission statement. Which is good because dancing is action and action is what it takes to be successful. She did a wonderful job on her first table topics speech.
Tuesday’s meeting was great. Maria E. had “dancing in the rain” as our theme for the night. We all shared about dancing, rhythm, and/or rain. Salomon spoke about how he was “bailando bajo la lluvia en Croácia” on his last trip overseas. Fantastic speech! Dan motivated us to make effective plans. Make sure you write down your goals each month, week, and day. Good advice.
I leave you with the words of Yoda, the wise Jedi ” Do or do not, there is no try” If you want something, take steps everyday to make it happen. Indecision is worse than a bad decision in my opinion. Sitting on the fence never made anyone successful. If you are clear on what it is you want, take the steps every day to make it happen. Sometimes you will be successful and other times you’ll struggle. But each step takes you closer to the goal, regardless of the daily outcome.
At the August 23rd meeting, Sheri Long was the backup speaker for Gabriel who could not make it. She gave a speech entitled ‘Back Bay Birds’ in which she educated us on the variety of birds that are indigenous to Back Bay of Newport. This comes from her experience as a volunteer naturalist. Everyone is encouraged to venture the kayak tour she talked about.
Volunteer Naturalist led kayak tours of Newport’s Back Bay are conducted Saturdays and Sundays, 10-12:30pm. The tours take place at the Newport Aquatic Center on Saturdays and at Newport Dunes on Sundays. On Saturdays the fee is $15 per person. On Sundays the fee is $20 for adults and $15 for kids under 12. There’s also a $10 entrance fee at the Dunes. Space is limited so please make reservations: 949 923-2269.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer naturalist, call Rita McCoy: 949 923-2296. The first class is Saturday, 9/24, 9am - 3:30pm. Then you attend twice a week for 10 weeks, starting Thurs, 10/6 & Sat. 10/8, 9am - 12 noon. There is a $25 material fee.
Our mission is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning
environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop
communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster
self-confidence and personal growth.
